Within one month I was able to collect a few upgrades for the 5T. I knew DDM will have the crazy black friday sale like last year and largescalerc also had few items on sale too. But I am not a big fan of buy upgrade parts for brand new because it cost twice as much as a used one. So I lucked out and there was a few sellers on HBF that was parting out their Baja. Initially I was going to used the FLM diff cup/ shaft set with the Phatdad 300m dogbones but right after black Friday TGN and DDM had a sale on UberRC HD Ball Drive System. I did not know if TGN's kit was a v1 or v2 but it was $10 cheaper than DDM. Since TGN was in California I would have to pay for sale tax and that would make TGN more expencive. Plus I knew the kit from DDM is version 2.
Here is some info about from the manufacture:
"The UberRC HD Ball Drive System features x5 ball bearings spaced around the ball end to provide a perfectly smooth drive at all possible angles of the Baja's suspension travel and gives 5 points of contact inside the cups as opposed to 2 with standard systems. Featuring a 9mm thick dogbone, we have purposely aimed this at high end users running big power plant engines, plus stock engines alike."
The main difference between v1 and v2 is the drive cups are thicker on the newer version. There is actually a v3 cup but no one in the US has it for sale.
Starting from the left is the stock SS dogbone, next is the Uber Ball Drive, and on the far right is the Phatdad 300m dogbone
Here is another cool item I bought that I never tried in my previous baja's, a Turtle Racing quick diff. I was able to pick up a TR quick diff as a complete tranny with FLM cups, and HD gears. The first thing I did was change the diff oil, replaced all the bearing with TFE Pro kit and added a seal to keep the dirt from coming it through the lay shaft. I swapped out the diff cups too because I went with the Uber RC ball system instead.
