When I bought the lathe from craigslist it did not come with a chip pan. I was going to go to Home Depot and buy some sheet metal to make one. Then I remember a had some metal from my old workbench that I took apart. I also had an scrap piece of white laminated particle board with oak trim (it was removed from my old desk that I threw away, and this was the old part I kept because I made it). I combined the two together and come up with the chip pan.

Here is the metal from my old workbench that I took apart. I did not need the whole thing so I cut off only what I needed.

Below the chip tray is the white laminated particle board with oak trim. This board gave the chip tray additional support so I could pick up the lathe and move it without worrying about bending the metal tray. And the board make it easier to add the oak trims on the ends of the tray to keep anything from falling off
