The stock Savage bumper is not doing it for me anymore. With the extra weight of the 1/5 scale conversion the stock bumper is not strong enough to protect the front end. I have broken too many shock shaft and caps because when I nose down in a jump or hit something the bumper just bends right in the shocks. So hopefully the new bumper setup will help.

If I had the stock HPI big bore shocks setup it would be a straight bolt on. As you can see in the picture above I am using LST shock with the Innovative RC shock mounts. In the picture below I have the new bumper mounted and you can see that there is a center support piece that runs right through the middle which block the rear IRC shock mount. At the time I was installing this bumper the upper bumper mount (HPI part number 106291) is not in stock anywhere.

I made this to replace the upper bumper mount (HPI part number 106291).

The shock tower will be made out of 1/4 inch 2024 aluminum and if you look carefully you can see the red lines that representing the IRC shock mount. From that, I will mill out the hole where the bumper supports will go through.

Here is the shock tower after I finished all the cutting.

With some minor tweaks everything mounted right up.

Here is a view from up top

This gives you a better view of the new bumper.

With the new bumper you will need to change the lower skid plate too.

I think the bumper is still a bit small so I be using a Baja 5T bumper shortly.
